The President has recently announced the United States will increase our efforts in Afghanistan and we will send more of our troops to the region to accomplish our goals. This is foolish and will potentially be an irresponsible loss of life. How many men and women, both military and civilian, must perish before we understand that war is not the answer to any question.
Isaiah prophesied that the coming Messiah would "judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4) Our messiah has come; God who has walked the Earth in the human form of Jesus the Christ, came and sacrificed so that all others would have eternal life. Yet, we fail to recognize or remember Christ's sacrifice and send young people off to "take up sword against nation" and sacrifice when it is unnecessary.
Join me and pray for peace. Pray for the leaders of all the nations that they might remember the sacrifice of Christ and allow the God of all humanity to "judge between the nations and settle disputes." Pray for the lives of those who will be lost fighting so that the egos of those who sent them would be satisfied. Pray for the lives of the innocent who will be caught in the midst of the fighting. And pray for our country and all countries that we may find peace.
Let us, through prayer, beat our swords into plowshares and our spear into pruning hooks. War and violence is never an answer.
More now than ever - Peace!
